A "Diary" of Noise

A few of our neighbours have been keeping "diaries" of the noise we are forced to listen to , these notes are from a neighbour who lives approx 1.5 km from the track

• 21st January : All Day Motorbike Racing - LOUD
• 21st January - Speedway ( early evening till 11.30 PM ) Heard over 10 km away
• 22nd January - All Day Motorbike racing - LOUD
• 23rd January ( Monday ) Cars on track all day - Heard over 3.5 km away
• 24th January ( Tuesday ) Cars on track all day - Ditto
• 26th January (Thursday) Loud cars on track all day - Ditto
• 26th January ( Thursday ) Speedway until 11.30 PM - LOUD
• 27th January ( Friday ) multiple cars on track all day - Practise day Lady Wigram - Horrendously LOUD
• 28th January ( Saturday ) Car Racing all day - Lady Wigram - Ditto

OK .. let's save on " dittos and louds ".. this noise is usually heard 3-4 km away - and to give you an idea of the "loudness " of 'one car on track ' - a roofing worker , working on a roof ( funnily enough ) over 5 km away , wrote a letter to the ChCh Press expressing his alarm at finally tracking down the noise that had been driving him to distraction for 3 days - it was A SINGLE CAR on the track at Ruapuna

• 29th January ( Sunday ) Motor Racing all day until approx 6.00 pm - Lady Wigram
• 30th January ( Monday ) Loud car on track in morning
• 31st January : (Tuesday ) LOUD car on track all day
• 1st February - We had a quiet day !!!
• 2nd February- ( Thursday ) Cars on track all day
• 3rd Feburary ( Friday ) Loud Cars on track all day
• 4th February (Saturday) Loud Car Racing all day
• 4th February ( Saturday Night ) Speedway until 9.30 pm
• 5th February (Sunday) Loud cars on track all day
• 6th February (Monday ) Loud Drag Racing - afternoon
• 7th February ( Tuesday ) Car/s on track most of day
• 8th February ( Wednesday ) Rain - No activity
• 9th February ( Thursday ) Rain ( Quiet !!)
• 10th February ( Friday ) Multiple cars and Bikes on track all day ( 9.30 am - 6.30 pm )
• 11th February ( Saturday ) Racing all day
• 11th February ( Saturday Night ) Speedway ( 7pm till 11pm )
• 12th February ( Sunday ) Racing all day
• 13th February ( Monday ) Loud Car on track at 10.00 am ........

.......and on and on and on it goes - you may have noticed that on some days we have to listen to this noise from 9 am until 11 at night - or later , that's right - even though Noise Experts the world over have been telling us for years that this kind of exposure to noise is dangerous, the Christchurch City Council permits us to be exposed to these levels.
